My UFO Story
I had grown up out in the country in my hometown. There were only four houses on our black top road ours included. The town was five and a half miles away and the nearest neighbor was half a mile a way. Our home did not have a street lamp as the others did. Needless to say, light pollution was not an issue.
Clear skies and a new moon often brought about majestic and spectacular views of the Milky Way Galaxy and her stars. Every now and then while driving back home from work at night, I would witness the occasional shooting star.
Watching the stars at night, I wondered like so many others if anyone out there was looking back. It was this interest in stargazing which led to my increase in science fiction and watching every segment of Unsolved Mysteries that featured stories about UFO’s and alien abductions. I also read every book I could get my hands on about the subject matter. I would often check out Isaac Asimov’s Unidentified Flying Objects from the school library and quickly devoured Whitley Strieber’s Communion.
And Yes, while I was doing all of this “research”, I was secretly hoping to have a sighting of my own. It was on my bucket list of sorts every time I watched the stars at night. But alas, the only lights I would see through an old pair of binoculars belonged to man made aircraft.
It was not until I was thirteen years old when I would actually see something. Granted, it was not like the typical UFO sighting of seeing a flying saucer in the sky at daytime but it was still an experience that stays with me today. I never did see any little green men or recall being abducted, but I like to think I had my own unique encounter.
