My Everyday Carry Gear
EDC. Everyday carry gear. The first time I carried anything as a young kid was a cheap casio quartz watch and in my pocket was an old pocket knife given to me by my father, a knife which I still possess to this day and keep in a small treasure box.
Over the years, my EDC is evolved from a simple pocket knife and cheap watch. For the longest time, I carried nothing more than a nice looking Walmart brand watch (which is what I could afford at the time) and a folding pocket knife which was the Buck 503. And like most things I liked, I somehow managed to lose the knife. From there, I moved up to a Rip Curl A1005 and another folding pocket knife from Tactical Gear. These days, my EDC consists of a Bulova Dress Watch (Model: 96B311), IM Corona lighter, and the Leatherman Wave+.
After having my Rip Curl for 14 years, I decided it was finally time to retire old faithful and find something else that was suitable to my own unique tastes. During my research, I came across Bulova.
Per their website:
Founded 140 years ago by Joseph Bulova, the company is a testament to the American Dream. Joseph was just 19 when he first came to this country from what is today the Czech Republic. He had already done apprenticeships in both the watchmaking and goldsmithing trades, and he eventually joined Tiffany & Co., which at the time employed 1,000 people and was still under the leadership of co-founder Charles Lewis Tiffany (whose son would go on to make the name synonymous with stained glass in the 20th century.)
If you’re in the market for a new timepiece, Bulova has an affordable and large assortment of watches for both men and women.
Being a fan of the HBO show Boardwalk Empire and 1920s vintage styles, I decided to add to my everyday gear, a lighter. Now I’m not a cigarette smoker by any means aside from the occasional cigar, but I’ve found that having a lighter quite handy. From lighting candles, firing up a grill, or lighting up a lady\’s cigarette at a bar while listening to live music, having a functional lighter that looks stylish has been worth it’s weight in gold.
Last but certainly not least, we’ve arrived at the Leatherman Wave+. Getting that first pocket knife is a rite of passage for many young boys, and I’ve carried a knife with me for over 30 years. However, I increasingly kept finding myself in situations that required just a couple of extra tools. Already having a Leatherman Surge for work, it only made sense to purchase the Wave+. With 18 tools housed in its slim configuration, you won’t regret purchasing one for yourself.
And with just those 3 simple items, my EDC gear is not only stylish but also very functional.
