Another Downtown Shoot

Downtown

Without a doubt, my favorite place to shoot is Polk Street in Amarillo. Not only does it have a lot of cool places to eat and hang out but it also has a variety of old eclectic buildings as backdrops for photography.

It also happens to be a very popular spot with other photographers as well. The chamber of commerce building located at 10th and Polk is housed in the old Bivins home with enormous pillars and stone steps.

For this latest shoot with model Nevaeh, I decided to go across the street and take advantage of the large glass windows and beautiful stone buildings.

The Model

Nevaeh Perez (Instagram) is Miss Teen Universe Texas 2021. And as it turns out, my cousin is married to her uncle. Who knew?

Nevaeh is a natural in front of the camera and had no trouble posing or making those subtle facial movements as she looked into the lens. Normally, everybody is awkward in front of camera for about the first 45 minutes however, she is a professional and we had zero time to waste.

The Edits

I decided on keeping the warm look in the photos given that the days in Texas are definitely getting warmer. This day in question happened to be over 90°! Thankfully, working across the street, we were in the shadow of a two story home. Nevaeh’s skin is basically flawless and did minimal editing with frequency separation and a mixer brush for retouching. I enhanced the eyes a bit using dodge and burn. I also used the mixer brush to smooth out a few spots in her jeans as well.

Overall I was well pleased with how these photos turned out. It was also equally pleasing working with a new model and hope to shoot with her again.
