A Fairy in the Woods
The Muse
When I first started photography, I started off shooting landscapes and still life. It wasn’t until 2017 when my foray into portrait and boudoir photography began. It was then that I met Josie. And through trials and tribulations with meet ups, photoshoot ideas, my poor editing skills at the time, we finally got into a groove.
Josie has truly inspired my work and continues to do. With motherhood now a part of her life, the focus has shifted from sexy to more ethereal and fantasy photoshoots.
The Photoshoot
After a three year gap of not shooting together, I reached out and suggested we do an outdoor shoot of some type. Josie suggested something along the lines of a long flowing dress akin to the Renaissance period. It took a minute for her to find the right outfit, but in the end, she found the right one.
I decided to add a candle holder to the look and give the sense, this fairy was making her way home. We went to my favorite spot for outdoor shoots that create a sort of forest feel. Living in the Texas panhandle, forests are in short supply, and I think it works rather well. Of course it is also windy and any attempt to light the candle would be in vain and have to be taken care of in post.
The Edits
I definitely wanted to give the images a soft feel and increase the luminescence of her white gown to give it an almost glowing look in some shots. I then photoshopped a flickering flame on to the candle which complimented the breeze going through Josie’s hair. Even though it was late December, there were still Fall colors lingering around which I took full advantage of by increasing the oranges, reds, and yellows.
In the end, we have a fairy walking through the woods.
