Jumbo Mozzarella Sticks

Quick and Easy Snack

Homemade marinara sauce never lasts long at my place. Whether it’s for pasta dishes, sandwiches or dipping sauce, I never seem to have enough on hand.

Thankfully, for one Sunday afternoon, I did have about half a mason jar left along with a block of mozzarella cheese. I may have gone a little overboard with the size of the cheese sticks, but made some mozzarella bites with the rest. Pro tip: keep your cheese sticks to about a 1/2 inch thick for better results

Ingredients

  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Garlic powder
  • Marinara Sauce (click the link for my recipe)
  • Canola oil
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 cup All purpose flour
  • 2 cups Italian Bread Crumbs

Instructions

Set up your breading station. Fill one tray with flour and about a tablespoon of garlic powder, a second tray with 2 eggs whisked, and a third tray for the 2 cups of Italian bread crumbs. Dredge the cheese in the flour shaking off the excess, followed by the egg wash then the bread crumbs. And then repeat: flour, egg wash, and Italian bread crumbs. Freeze for 45 minutes.

Heat the oil to 350°F

Carefully lower the cheese into the frying oil, cooking in small batches, fry for approximately 60-90 seconds or until cheese starts to ooze out of the breading.

Serve with your favorite dipping sauce or in my case, the remaining marinara sauce topped with grated parmesan cheese, freshly sliced basil and an ice cold Modelo.

Enjoy!
